Heiniu was never just our dog. He was family.
In the nearly three years we had with him, he brought so much love and happiness into our home. We have so many memories of him that we’ll carry with us forever.
On May 4, 2026, we thought we were going to pick Heiniu up and bring him home.
Instead, we arrived just moments after he died.
Since then, we’ve had the same questions. What happened? Why did it happen? Were the right procedures followed? And what needs to change so this doesn’t happen to another animal or another family?
That’s what Justice for Heiniu means to us.
We want honest answers about what happened to him. We want his name and reputation treated with the respect he deserves. And we want to see real changes in animal services — better training and procedures, safer restraint practices, emergency veterinary care when it’s needed, proper oversight, better record keeping, better communication, and accountability.
Nothing can bring Heiniu home. We know that.
But if what happened to him can help change things and prevent another family from going through the same loss, then something meaningful can still come from his story.
We’re so grateful to everyone who has stood beside Heiniu and our family. To everyone who has asked questions, shared his story, given their time, put up a sign, or simply refused to forget him — thank you.
It means more to us than you probably know.
We’ll keep asking questions, looking for answers, and pushing for change.
For Heiniu.
Forever loved. Never forgotten.
